Fishing4Compliments are a Yorkshire based independent band with a focus on bringing singer-songwriter Eileen's intriguing, quirky songs to life and sharing their resulting uplifting, hook-laden folk-pop sounds with an array of audiences along the way.
“F4C specialise in catchy, hook-laden folk/pop songs written by Eileen, which features her clear, natural voice, sometimes with vibrato, which gives the band’s music a distinctive unique sound. Eileen is also a fine songwriter who is able to combine intriguing, personal lyrics with a shiny pop sensibility” (Peter Cowley, FATEA Magazine). |
Fishing4Compliments comprised of; Eileen, Ashley, James and Steve evolved organically 14 years ago around Eileen's songs, which have been described as enigmatic, intriguing and quirky. The band share a passion for developing and creating the uplifting, harmony & hook-laden folk-pop sound they like to call their own which has emerged through the eclectic mix of influences on which they draw including; The Sundays, The Cure, The Cranberries, The Smiths, The Beatles, XTC, Mark Knopfler & Tom Petty.
Over the years Fishing4Compliments have enjoyed bringing their songs to a wide array of live music venues, pubs and festivals along the way. Notably the band, thanks to the the support of the owner of award winning Loafers Vinyl & Coffee Shop opened a Loafer's presents folk night event headlined by Chris Helme of The Seahorses located in the unique and spectacular surroundings of a speigeltent in Yorkshire’s architectural and cultural landmark that is The Piece Hall in their neighbouring town of Halifax. Currently operating as a four piece band traditionally Fishing4Compliments has worked as a five piece outfit and soon after joining forces with their former fifth member, David Sharp (Drummer /percussionist)the band embarked on a project to record their journey together with the songs resulting in the release of their debut album 'Off The Isle Of Somewhere' in 2020. The album went on to be enthusiastically received by audiences and reviewers alike and led to a nomination for Best Folk/Acoustic Act as part of world-famous Radio Wigwam awards. This testament to the years they had spent together crafting their unique sound was produced by the highly successful Leeds based indie-folk band The Dunwells and followed on from being encouraged by David Dunwell when he expressed an interest in recording the band's music. What next? Fishing4Compliments have recently completed their second album again with the expert production of the amazingly talented Dunwell brothers Joseph and David. The band aim to release this latest impressively alternative record of their work into the world in the spring-summer of 2025 alongside a series of celebratory gigs in their favourite venues. In the meantime they already have several gigs booked in for the coming year across Yorkshire and beyond in both their band and Duo formation where you can expect to hear them passionately sharing their uplifting songs alongside carefully and lovingly integrated indie-folk covers of songs by artists they greatly admire and that blend seamlessly with their own original material. |
Views on 'Off The Isle Of Somewhere' & 'Fishing4Compliments' “Bright and breezy and at times utterly irresistible’ and “Eleven tracks of upbeat and optimistic folk-pop” (Dave Beech, RGM Magazine). “Light and upbeat folky/pop dominates Off The Isle Of Somewhere by Huddersfield’s FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS. The sound is somewhere between Fairground Attraction and The Beautiful South. The songs are jaunty and foot tapping..” (RnR Magazine) “This is a fantastic album of songs that are uplifting and joyful there, moody, rich and evocation here. Songs that are written and played from the heart. Lovely” (Frank, Local Sound Focus) “Beautiful folk music, with sounds of Fleetwood Mac, The Cranberries and The Cardigans. Dreamy Melodies and harmonies, weaved together with great musicianship and songs that take you away from everyday life. Great band who love playing live and the audience can’t do anything but enjoy it and want to hear more” (Mark Richardson-Owner of Loafers Vinyl & Coffee, The Piece Hall, Halifax) |
